Tejo

Tejo is the Colombian national sport. It’s like horseshoes, with explosives. Palm-sized discs are hurled towards a metal ring inside a pit of clay. The closer you are to the ring, the more points you receive. If by chance you hit the small gunpowder-laden paper triangles along the ring, and cause said paper triangles to explode, you normally win that round. The game is enhanced by several rounds of Pilsens and intermittent shots of Aguardiente, Colombia’s answer to Sambuca. Needless to say, I was only good at half this sport.

I was able to finally make a boom-boom, but at point blank range I blew out my eardrums. “What?”
